Group Project: Mom, Mamá, Maê / Branding
This project was done together as a group by Taen Johnson, Lydia Aimes, Katie Cripe and myself. I was the design director for our website. As a team, we noticed that many first-gen immigrants and refugees often face prejudice and discrimination from others in this country. They may have difficulty adjusting to a new culture and language, and for this reason, they might have problems finding a good job and housing. There is a need for job accessibility for immigrants and refugees, specifically women. Our restaurant is called Mother, Mamá, Mâe (english, spanish, thai words for mom) because often times people learn everything they know about cooking from their mom, their mom learned from her mom and so on and so forth. The same recipes have been passed down through the generations in order to be preserved for later generations. There is nothing like an authentic, home cooked, food experience and nothing beats international cooking from a person from that actual country. We believe that we are better when we celebrate and try to understand people with different cultures than our own. Our dream is to hire more chefs that get paid an ethical and fair wage, feature more cuisines, and bring all their amazing stories to you.
